I have to disagree here. I have ordered almost 20 pairs from various
on-line retailers and have only had a problem one time with quality
(which was quickly fixed once I let the issue be known). When I am
telling someone about the option of buying eye-glasses online I bring
out my collection and ask them to pick out the brick and mortar pairs
that I paid $300-$500 and they are always unable to do so. I think the
quality and styles available on line are just as good, if not better
than in stores. I know that I wouldn't put cheap glasses on my eyes
and ruin my vision just to save money, as Ira has mentioned in his
many blog posts before.

I can only speak for myself on the experiences Ive had with helping
people buy online for the first time. I would say more than half are
happy with their glasses, but the rest just can't deal with the fact
that they got great glasses at a low price. I have had people bring
their glasses to the optometrist for inspection to make sure the
lenses were correct and were genereally happy with the glasses, but
yet because they paid so little for them they were inferior. I asked
this lady at work who has ordered a pair for herself why she doesn't
get another pair on line, as she was ecstatic with the first pair, but
she insists that paying full price at the store is the only way to go
for quality. I asked her if something was wrong with her pair, and she
said no, but "I only paid $30 for these, how good can they really be"
