If you don't get large lenses, you shouldn't have much problem with
the standard 1.49 CR39 plastic, and then you don't have to worry about
any optical problems like colors at the edges. Zenni's standard lenses
(1.57?) would give you an even thinner lens than CR39, and the optical
properties are pretty good, though not quite as good as CR39.

On the other hand, if 1.67 has good optical properties and isn't that
much more expensive, it's probably worth a try. My guess is that it is
expensive.

I think it's unlikely that your PD is 53, but it's possible. You need
to double check. I'd suggest using two different methods, and
measuring twice with each method. Try to get your measurements within
1 mm of each other.
