The easiest way to ensure that you get what you want, is to purchase from a
reputable company. I know it sounds simple, but it remains true.
On the main glassyeyes site we have a list of preferred retailers, and they
always treat us right. A few other sites not included on the list are also
forum darlings.
Now, as to the branding...most online sites do not sell specific brand
lenses, but instead a generic "equivalent." There are exceptions, of
course, but most of this is akin to getting something "generic." Notice I
didn't say cheap...only inexpensive. For example, Zenni is known for good
quality, and perfect optics...but to the best of my knowledge Zenni doesn't
use a brand name lens, using instead the Chinese generic equivalent.
If your prescription isn't too severe, just go ahead and order a pair of
single vision glasses from one of the retailers we usually discuss as being
favorable. It should only cost you around $10, or so.
It's a cheap experiment, which either will or won't work. It's that
simple. If it works, you have had your eyes opened to a whole new world.
If it doesn't work you can get a tax deduction by donating the pair to the
Lion's Club.
The hardest part of buying online is actually making that first purchase.
Be careful, though...it's WAY too easy to end up with not 1 or 2 pairs, but
10 or 20. ;)
