What was his prescription back then, was it weaker than it is now?

To be honest, I've bought from 39dollarglasses and had some not so
great experiences. A couple of times, they sent me glasses with out
of alignment temples, so they sat crooked on my face. I was able to
fix that, but still in one case, it was quite obivous, I think they
should have caught it before it left their shop. Most recently, I
bought a pair of Transition VI lenses from them and it took an extra
couple of weeks to get the Certificate of Authenticity to me because I
had to email them to ask for it. I was able to see fine through the
glasses and they gave me the coatings I asked for, just think things
could have gone better.

Don't know anything about them, but have read some negative reviews of
them on this site and others. Not sure I'd want to deal with them.

At least with a brick and mortar shop, you can refuse the glasses on
the spot in most cases. My wife wanted to get new lenses from WalMart
for her glasses and they offered her thin lense, they turned out to be
coke bottles so she refused them on the spot and didn't have to pay
for them.
In addition to 39dollarglasses, I've dealt with 3 other online optical
shops, CoastalContacts.com, EyeBuyDirect.com, and GlassesUSA.com, and
had good experiences with all of them. The $6.99 frame I got from
CoastalContacts was a little flimsy, but the lenses were on target, so
maybe I should have bought a more expensive frame. Other than getting
smudged lenses from GlassesUSA, my experiences with the other 2
retailers were good.

My wife had a frame relensed at SimplyEyeglasses.com in Florida and
they gave her good lenses at a good price. Perhaps online glasses
aren't for everyone, which is fine, but whatever you decide to do,
good luck.
