We discuss this every so often, and the answer is as follows:
The eye doctor must provide you with a written prescription on request, and
most do it voluntarily. But in most states, the prescription DOES NOT
include the PD.
The PD is measured by the dispensary, and is considered *their* information,
despite how stupid that sounds. A *few* states require the PD be considered
part of the prescription, but obviously yours is not one of them.
It's readily available through several sources, though.
First, run by a friendly dispensary, perhaps at WalMart or CostCo and ask
them to measure it. They've been known to do it for free. Or, second, get
a printout of your records from your last pair...the PD will be on the
printout.
You could also measure it yourself, but while that works for a lot of
people, it doesn't always work for everyone. *I* prefer to get mine
measured by a professional, preferably with one of those binocular gizmos.
Hope this helps. If not, a quick search of the forum archives will turn up
a wealth of information.
