I am still not aware what the problem is as it works on both Windows XP computers I own with no problems. Are you using the alpha23 win32 release?

I tried the icon file NanoTech attached earlier, but Windows claimed it had no icons. I used GIMP to remove the icons larger than 48x48 and tried that (attached). This time I was able to change the icon on the shortcut and it stuck. This includes 16-color, 256-color and 32-bit icons at 16x16, 32x32 and 48x48, rather than just the 32-bit, 32x32 icon that came with the release.
