Sorry if you're offended but that's how it goes in science. If you misuse a technique then you can expect to be called to account. The same standards have to apply whether you're a sincere environmentalist, a "fossil fool", a scientific colleague, or a former Vice President. We can't give someone a pass because we agree with their views.
