As well as the maritime influence, there have been a couple of pieces
of research that suggest that the Rockies have a large influence on
the climate of N Europe by their influence on the jet stream. There
was one piece of American research and one article in one of the
meteorology journals (The International Journal of Meteorology?).
Unfortunately this is from memory and I don't have references to hand
(did a quick GS search and drew a blank). One implication was that the
effect matched that of the NAD.
