Well, that may be a bit of a distinction without a difference...if the 
warm water doesn't get as far north in sufficient volume, the regional 
climate will change and other possible changes elsewhere will be little 
comfort!

But that said...

The model studies certainly show a lower volume for the overall 
overturning circulation in the north Atlantic, not just different 
locations for the convection.
