I've had the wings off two of my coupes and it's not a bad job.
Remove the metal strips that cover the wing joint. Undo the aileron
push rod. Unclip the nav light connectors. On the pitot tube, you'll
most likely find it easiest to just cut the joiner hoses and replace
them with a new bit of hose when you reinstall the wings. Get a couple
of saw horses for support under the wing. Cover them with carpet or
other soft padding. The outer one is of course taller than the inner
one. On the left wing be very careful not to bang the pitot tube or sit
the wing on it!. Undo the rear spar bolts. Now you have to undo the
two main wing bolts. They are a little slow to get undone as you can
only turn the bolt a bit at a time. I think the wrench size was a 7/8
and or a 13/16 box end wrench. When you have the nuts off, tap out the
top one first and let the wing settle onto the sawhorses. This is where
you should have someone on the wing tip to take up the weight as you tap
the upper bolt out. Next you will have to lay under the wing and tap
out the bottom bolt. You will find the wing is suprisingly light, most
likely about 65 or 70 pounds. If you want to support the wings on
something while off the plane, stand them on their leading edge on a
foam pad or mattress. make sure they can't slip and fall!
When installing the wings don't forget to start the pitot tube hoses
on as you fit the wing up in place. You also need someone to wiggle the
wing around to get the bolt holes lined up. Have someone lift on the
wing tip as you start to tighten the main spar bolts, to take any
movement out in an upwardly direction. "They" say there should be no
slop in the main bolt holes, but any I've seen always have a little,
which looks like a lot by the time you get to the end of the wing. Make
double sure ALL connections are correct and tight before replacing the
joiner strips. This may sound complex but it isn't. Just make supports
for the wing before removing, and handle the wings with care. Good
Luck.
