Bob, I am an original farm boy. Used to stay with my Grandparents on their farm. One of the things I had to do was milk a cow each morning and evening. Later my parents bought a milk cow, so had to milk her all the time. Later, when I was a senior in High School, I worked for a dairy. We had to milk 150 cows every day. Didn't do those by hand though. I will say that was an udderly disgusting job, because I always smelled of a mixture of chlorine and cow manure. Couldn't get that off no matter how much bay rum I poured on myself.
