One thing is how crap cars of 2000 are still better than really great cars of 1965. At least objectively. Style does count for something though. >If I see >you on the hiway with my XKE I'll let you find out if all that twin >turbo power does you any good. Would depend on the E-type, I should think. 3.8 or 4.2 will have one devil of a time keeping up with an S4. V12, different story. BUT the E-type crumpet-collector driver will have more fun. I know this, having babysat a 1969 E-Type 4.2 ragtop for a year in my youth. And I personally would much rather live with a nice 3.8 or 4.2 than the 12. When you consider that the S4 as many years removed in technology from the XKE as the XKE was from MG Magna, it would be silly if the S4 didn't do a lot of things to more extremes than the XKE. Neither of which is looking good or giving a certain je ne sais quoi to the driver willing to master is nuances. It's like the fact that a stock Honda Civic will tear up a 1965 Mini Cooper. To put it in perspective, an S4 will badly embarrass a vintage Porsche Carrera, or the last generation of BMW M3 and M5s. Current BMW M's are another story. Of course if the road is imperfect, the game is up for everyone without our Quattro and ESP. No skill required, just tromp on it. >That's as soon as I get this damn Lucas >wiring figured out.
