If I am not mistaken 'cause I can't find my old book on the XKE But I believe I read that the 3.8 and 4.2 XKE models were honest 150mph+ cars, but by the time the V12 was under the bonnett, the engine was so choked down with emissions equipment and other power robbing plumbing that it ran out of breath about 20 to 30 mph sooner.
