I don't think the color of the paint makes any difference.  Black does
have
the tendency to absorb heat, while white tends to reflect it, but I
suspect
heat from the engine, going through a steel exhaust pipe, doesn't have any
preference as to white or black.  It's going to get hot anyhow.  After
all,
in the absence of light, everything is black.  We use ceramic cone heaters
to heat plastic.  The cones are white.  It doesn't make any difference if
the sheet we are heating is white or black, the heat time is the same for
each.
