Actually there is a difference. Try painting your firewall black and
experience the difference. (Even under the dark cowling).

Three items are critical for colors under the cowl, (we are working with
an
engine that has a tendency to run hot and can use all the performance
enhancements available. Besides it don't cost much, so do it):

Intake Air and Gas, (Intake spider, tubes, etc): Should be White, thick
coat. This helps keep the gas and air temp down and results in better
performance. (Don't paint the air filter area white. With carb ice
problems, it could hurt, but probably won't).

Engine and Oil Slump (Including Oil Cooler and mags.): Should be black,
one
coat of very thin high temp. This helps transfer heat to the cooling air
as
it is pass from the high pressure area to the low area. Also air is
blowing
on the oil slump from the front onto a black oil slump. If you have a oil
filter, paint it black before installing. (A black prop may give a little
help. The prop acts as a radiator, to some degree, and transfers heat
from
the crank to the air).

Exhaust: White thick coat. This is to reflect the hot exhaust back into
the
stack and take it out of the cowl.

Now I'm not saying you will see a large drop but you may get a 5 - 10
degree
drop on a normal day. If you are always pushing the max on temp then it
may
give a little edge. And why not - paint is cheap, overheated engines are
expensive.
