PS I hope I'm dead wrong in my theory, but if we are unable to oppose this
the next time we will be removing all the header tanks, installing
mandatory rudder pedals, or some other loonyness.
 
If anyone can place a name with this guy, perhaps a little investigation
might reveal some improper influence at work.
 
I guess at this point I'll believe anything. A friend of mine once put a
170 down in the woods after departing his private strip. He was a licensed
private pilot with a good medical and there were no passengers or any
property damage other than the aircraft which was in annual. The conduct
of the FAA employee who investigated the accident was truly outrageous and
worse than one would expect from the IRS. He not only harassed the pilot
in the hospital and his family at home, but tried to extort the mechanic
into making borderline false statements with threats to make a case that
didn't exist. He also tried to obtain documents by illegal means. All this
for an incident involving no property damage or loss of life, and no
evidence of irresponsibility on the pilot's part.
 
I had first hand knowledge of these events, and was disgusted when before
I had more respect for the FAA. Now I'm willing to believe almost
anything.
