Ken: I believe the maintenance seminar concerns are not an issue of whether we are, as an organization, grateful or ungrateful to the presenters. We are grateful; they have clearly contributed and continue to contribute beyond measure. To suggest that anybody thinks otherwise is specious. Please stop doing so; it doesn't help. Please also stop suggesting that anyone is saying that the Wrights are trying to 'drum up business.' That has not been said, and it's difficult enough to discuss this constructively without having someone make up offensive statements that were never made. However, if even a 'minority' of our constituency are either put off the type, or put off the (important) message, or put off the EOC, that is a valid concern. Particularly where there is an opportunity to do it better. We need to find that solution. Otherwise, people are going to stop listening. Is that what you want? People are getting the impression that all Ercoupes are ill-maintained, unairworthy, corrosion-laden 'Scare-Coupes' with insoluble maintenance problems. Is that what you want? Now maybe that's not what we're trying to SAY in these sessions. But that is what too many people are coming away with. That is a problem. Some of the statements (one of which you note below) were perceived as inflammatory, and as less than constructive, either in their substance or in the manner of their delivery. Was your airplane one of the few airworthy ones at Mason? How would you know, either way? How do you like to be talked to? As a responsible, thoughtful adult who has a good working relationship with a competent A&P/IA and wants to do the right thing to keep his plane airworthy? Or as a head-in-the-sand cheapskate who doesn't give a damn about airworthiness who hires an idiot to do a paper-annual every year? Too many people who no they aren't the latter fell like their being talked to that way. We need to find a better way of communicating. I've advanced a proposal for how that might happen, while making the most of our EOC technical resources, to some of my fellow board members. Please give us the opportunity to work on this.
