   Hi Coupers!
Time for the next episode in the story!
Well we found the problem with the comm noise. After checking every
other thing
we finally changed radios & voila. No more noise! The other radio was
supposedly checked out
but it won't work in the coupe. The engine miss on take off was in the
carb. We put a new one on
& solved that one.
I went up with our A&P yesterday. I didn't do the takeoff or
the landing
but flew straight & level for 20 or so miles while he kept checking the
radio. It was quite rough
but I had no problem holding altitude , keeping the wings level or
staying on coarse. I found the controles light
& suprisingly responsive. Most of my time is in a warrior.
I can sure get use to that 100 mph wind in my hair , especially as hot
as it was.
The ASI is out quite a ways. (15-20 mph HI) we lifted off at
80 indicated & reached 125 @ 2500 rpm
on the level (85 hp with a climb prop? I think not!) Next time I will
take the GPS & see what I get.
I also noticed that my feet got a little toasty, even with the top down.
The heater vent was closed.
Does anyone else have this happen?
We have been fighting with vibration in the nose wheel.
After replacement
of all the bushings to no avail, we swapped out the nose wheel assy
today.
Apparently it was not the original since it was the pnumatic
kind with the tin nut cracker which was suppose to be discontinued
around SN 1000 ( this coupe is SN 1845)
The one we put on has a spring & a cast nut cracker.(both are single
fork) I think all the
air had leaked out of the Pnumatic one as when we put the other one on,
the tail dropped 3 inches!(rats! down to 72 inches)
Looks like I will have to use these new rubbers I bought for the mains
after all.
Hope that cures the shimmy!
We changed the baggage bag behind the seat too! We put a denim bag on
2/3
of the hole leaving access to the battery then put an upolstered cover
over both the bag & the hole on hinges
with a velcro closure.
Other than these few gremlins, I am very happy with the way the
plane flys so far. It has
a nice feel to it. The seats are more comfy than the warrior. I think we
are going to have a lot of fun
with this one.
