Pete. I know this may sound crazy, but are your rudder cables hooked up correctly? I knew a coupe that went through two owners and tree annuals without anyone noticing that the rudders were going the wrong way! The plane was sloppy and was slow to go where it was pointed. It sounds like your trouble was mostly after you got in the air. You should keep your flight path going where you want to go. In a cross wind, you have to somewhat disregard where the nose is pointing. Your rudder cables should cross on the way to the tail. This could be worth a check, as crazy as it sounds. Don't give up on the coupe, there's just a problem you've got to sort out. Your plane should easily handle the kind of winds you mentioned with no trouble. Jon Page.
