Andy rightly states that you should have none checked if you log out then
back in.  Also, clearing cache and cookies will often clear "checked"
messages that aren't checked anymore (I've seen that)... finally, to clear
it without logging out... I use Select All, then the link that selects
multiple pages... then just navigate to another page; that always ensures I
have "0" checked messages anymore.
