I seem to frequently work around the problem by clicking the Tools button, then the Bookmarks button until eventually the GMarks menu appears. I haven't placed wireshark on the network to watch the traffic, so I'm not sure if those clicks make a difference. The problem does not seem to resolve itself solely by the passage of time, so I assume the clicks are having some affect on the behavior.
