I believe John has already explained it would be a significant effort to
upgrade to FF 4. I'm with DeBilBao -- John's made it clear he's done
with Gmarks, doesn't have the time or interest, etc. I'm a long time
user of Gmarks and love it and it'll be great if someone else can
maintain it, but let's let John "retire" and have his life. :D
So, John, THANKS, and feel free to move on with zero guilt!

Schoolwork, work, and other projects I have started since then. Its not like
Google is going to hire me to keep working on this.
I don't really use GMarks myself because I don't think it is the best solution
for bookmark sync (although I do like some of the features I added in like
filters, suggestions, and nested tags that few people know of) One of the large
problems with making the system separate from the browser's bookmarking system
is needing to re-implement everything the browser does and potentially what
other extensions do as well.
I have been emailed by someone who said they would be willing to try
maintaining GMarks and I might go ahead and give him a shot, but I just don't
think its worth the little time I have to keep working on this.
There is no need to reverse engineer. If you rename the .xpi file the extension
comes in to .zip you can unzip it and get the source.
Oh, also it looks like the amount of work required to port it to FF4 is more
than what was required between 3 and 3.6 or from 2 to 3, another reason I'm
hesitant to start upgrading.
