Actually, as Professor Geuzaine told me, I verified that a version 2 gmsh format will be understood by gmshToFoam as long as you dont check the save all elements checkbox in the pop-up window. But you are right about the OpenFOAM folks: they should have updated their gmshToFoam so that it understands the new version 4 gmsh format.

Thanks for the reply anyhow

It looks like an issue to discuss with the openfoam guys. If you posted a
diff of what was the expected output and which is the current one maybe
someone might be able to help you out.

On the other hand, I updated the .msh2 reader to .msh4 in my FEM codes in a
couple of hours last year. Folks at openfoam should do that too.

Hi to all

I have to use version 2.12.0 in order for gmshToFoam to transform the
physical groups into patches. Because if I use version 4.3.0 and save
the mesh in ascii version 2 format including all elements, gmshToFoam
ignores the physical groups and you end up with a single huge patch by
the name of patch0.

So I wonder if this is a bug. If so, it is really disppointing since I
would much prefer to use the latest gmsh version.

Thanks anyhow
