Ubuntu, however, is the most popular distro among desktops that
controls a very small segment of the "market". All "linux" distros
combined have had a relatively small impact on hardware manufacturers,
let alone a SINGLE distro.

This is due to the open source movement splitting the free software
movement. If everyone cooperate and refuse to buy closed hardware, the
manufacturers would gladly change once we promised to buy open
hardware from them only.
