Because where the software is, there is also the license which makes the software non-free. So letting him check for himself that this driver is non-free sounds fair to me. I don't like leaving people in the dark. This was catholicism, and we shouldn't do the same. > > Instead, it would be better to explore the free options that are > available (e.g. other printers) Because i was not sure if there was not a different driver for the printer he already has. In my world printers are not free (the beery "free"). So recommending buying different hardware should be sth like a last solution. or explain what can be done to improve > the current undesirable situation with this particular piece of > hardware. You should send an email, then (or maybe you already did). But I don't agree that giving a link to non-free software, accompanied with a remark about its status, is sth bad. ben -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.9 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Using GnuPG with Mozilla - http://enigmail.mozdev.org iEYEARECAAYFAkpylUkACgkQeizsUv+FLBKB4wCggfr41Qd6cO+buIvQuse3556h 0YIAn3zM8tcT3bZw7aPnhr2Mjhx6VM0B =+wQB -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- _______________________________________________ gNewSense-users mailing list [email protected] http://lists.nongnu.org/mailman/listinfo/gnewsense-users
