Ben,
There is probably going to be some cross the board duplications from time
to time. Is there too much division? I don't think so. Whether each chapter
has it's own website with it's own or duplicated information isn't really
an issue as it will all shake itself out over time. I think each chapter
has to find it's own balance of what they want to do. After all we are only
a month into this new format. It will take some time.
As to the GNHLUG......yes, we also have to as a group decide whether or not
we want formality in our group lives. To go forward, the Steering Committee
is the answer, and to assist and keep duplication to a minimum as I stated
once before, a couple of committees need to be formulated. This is all new
to lots of people and the excitment and enthusiasm is great to see of the
newer members and even some of the older members to bring all these new
ideas forward.
This is why we need another Steering Committee meeting which I have called
for at Concord after the Concord organziational meeting tomorrow night. We
are on the right path to having the ability of introducing Linux to more
people, in a quicker, more professional atmosphere, with a stronger format
to GNHLUG and the chapters.
This dialog is good and will allow people to know we are working to make
the group stronger. I am sure we are all on the same team, and yes there
will always be different ideas on any part of the whole. If we continue
growing at the rate we are now, we will fill into the organizational
structure.
I am in favor of a monthly Steering Committee meeting and not just one
before each GHLUG quarterly meeting. It would be a shame to allow the Linux
phenomenon to pass our group by as those IPO's make the world aware of
this thing called LINUX. I offered myself to the Chairmanship as I saw a
floundering and wanted to help us reach the next level as an organization.
If everyone will work together, we will have one of the premier LUGs in the
country. We certainly have the talent.
