Per the earlier suggesrion, was just looking at bugzilla at Redhat and has much 
info on these issues...Looks like the have some newer initscripts in the errata 
to fix the defaultroute thing, and adding the "noauth" command to the 
/etc/ppp/options is one way around this stuff...

And I know I'm not the only one having fun...
