The later 2.2.x kernels contain support for the SMB file systems. 
Assuming you have a Windows9x machine, foo, sharing it's C drive. 

mount -t smbfs -o password=xxx //foo/c /home/foo

You now can use foo's C: drive, or any other share that foo decides to 
allow you to use. 

The command:smbclient -L foo allows you to see what foo is exporting, 
similar to the network neighborhood.
