Hmm, I just got the latest XMMS the other day. I hit one problem during install,
but removing the offending old packages cleared it up for me (ie rpm -e). Of
course this assumes RPM, if you installed XMMS via sources, I believe there is
a 'make uninstall', that is, if you still have the sources around...
If you are using GNOME/Enlightenment you may also want to get the ESD
plugin. It lets XMMS play sounds through ESD.

WinAmp changed it's name to XMMS.

Yes. On Redhat 6.1 the default MP3 player is mpg123 (a nice command line
player). You can change it via MIME Types (I think). This is
assuming GNOME and GMC. I'm really not sure what KDE will do.

Dragging MP3's from GMC to XMMS works flawlessly.
