  My rule is, if I'm going to be compiling my own kernel, to get the stock one
from kernel.org and use that.  Linux VARs sometimes tinker with their kernels,
and that can mess you up if you're trying to locate a new feature or report a
bug.

  But that is IMNSHO.  :)
