  insmod smbfs first.  The modules are there, but most likely not loaded at the
moment..

  If you retrieve the current kernel source RPM, it comes configured the exact
same way your current system is.  Hence, make xconfig, add the SMB support, save
and exit, and make zlilo, zimage, bzImage (whaetevr your hearts desire is).
