I like Mike's style.  Another thing that I do is to save any
superblock information that I have when I create a new filesystem
(usually I save the output of newfs/mkfs/dumpe2fs/etc.)  I print out
this information and tape it to the box that contains the drive.

To tell the truth, I've never had a fsck go so badly that I needed
this information, but it's nice knowing that I have this information
if I ever need it.
