Well, I use both.  Big advantage of Applix:  You can start
everything separately, and it starts each new document (word,
spreadsheet, presentation) in it's own window, so you can move it
around.  It feels more "unixy" - lots of little programs doing
something well vs the monolithic MS approach that SO uses.
Disadvantages:  doesn't write to MS formats (reads from them, writes
to standard formats that MS reads like RTF).  Applix Presents is
nowhere near as nice as StarOffice Presentation, and does not read
.ppt files.

Of course, my favorite spreadsheet is gnumeric, & I like Abiword as
well (although it has a ways to go).  If you're doing ASCII/HTML,
Emacs, vi, pico should work just fine.
