from what i gather hardware talk on this list is bad. however this isn't
just hardware....its *nix also.
as most of you know i'm the administrator for usaexpress.net. we're
looking to expand from our 1 server that does everything to 2 and possibly
more later this year. I'm going to build the server - we've already
decided that. now its up to me to get all the parts together. before i
went and blew $2000 on parts i was just wondering what everybody would
suggest.
ppl have suggested the athlon - does anyone have any research to show me
that the chips are reliable to be used in heavy use servers? I'm thinking
a intel coppermine 700+ with 128megs ram and a 9gig UWSCSI drive. i'm also
looking for a good tape backup drive that is compatible with *.nix. (i
said that i it was about *nix, right :-))
if anybody has any thoughts i'd love to hear them :-)
