While attempting not to add more flames to the ever-burning
anti-M$ pyre, I think this all comes down to one thing: laziness. While
corporate America IS all about $$$, they don't like changing
things. Especially when that change would entail learning an entirely new
OS with new rules, a new environment, and more importantly, a new
"attitude" towards computers. Say all you want about the great
alternatives to M$ Office and Windows, people will STILL be using it for a
long, long time. Do I believe it will eventually "win out"? No, not
totally. Will it gain a very, very large market share? I believe that
*eventually*, yes.
And really, the people on this list already KNOW that there are
alternatives to M$- now we just need to spread this view, and talk to
managers and high-ups about how they could save money. Not only that, we
need to offer our help and assistance, WITHOUT AN ATTITUDE. I've seen far
too many "technical" people attempt to show others some really helpful
things, but their egotistical attitude ended up ruining the
attempt. IMHO, that's what often sabotages attempts to educate those that
are not comfortable with computers. Granted, those non-techs can be just
as nasty when they don't understand, but we (in the general, tech-oriented
people sense) need to be very, very patient. And when dealing with
managers and high-ups... even MORE patient, because if they make the right
decision (that is, Linux) then we get the benefits- of not having to deal
with M$!

Just my 2 or 3 cents worth...
