Besides the other helpful comments I've seen other people make (like
adding the "FollowSymLinks" to your http.conf file), I'll throw in
another snippet:
On nearly all Unix systems out there, you can't change the
permissions on a symbolic link -- Linux is included. In fact, the
permissions on a symbolic link don't matter on such systems -- the
permissions of the thing that the symlink points are the thing that
matter.
So please confirm that the permissions on the /home/tara/html
directory are correct. Don't worry about the permissions on the
symlink.
I've only been vaguely following this thread, but I don't believe that
you've posted the corresponding error messages in the Apache error log
yet. Could you do this? This would go a long way towards us helping
you out. (if you've already done this, just ignore me)
