Well, I don't know if Diffie/Hellman had the whole key-exchange thing worked
out, I just know they were the first (private citizens) to come up with the
concept of public key eencryption. This is actually documented in "The Puzzle
Palace", and it may well even be in Simon Signhs "The Code Book".
Ironically, the British MI5 or MI6 group (which ever is the Bletchley park
decendent) actually had it solved about 10 years before RSA. But for
"security" reasons, never released this knowledge to anyone other than the
NSA.
