First, make sure you have all the latest "Errata" RPM updates from Red Hat's
site installed. Among other things, the "kernel" package distributed with RHL
6.2 doesn't include a needed file for this.
Next, you need to "insmod agpgart" before you try to start your X server.
You will need to be root. If you have already tried starting the X server,
you will need to shut down and power off the machine -- otherwise, things get
hosed up and system instability results.
Lastly, the server to use is the standard SVGA server that comes with XFree
3.3.6. You shouldn't need any special /etc/X11/XF86Config options -- just
load the agpgart module first.
Once you've done all this, it runs well enough, but getting it all setup the
first time around is kind of a pain. If you are curious, the "GART" in AGP
GART is Graphics Address Remapping Table. It is basically a semi-standard
method to use main memory for graphics memory. It isn't very fast, but for
low-end workstation use, it is acceptable.
You will find more information in:
/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/doc/README.i810
Hope this helps!
