Here's a tip for a possible 3rd (not only for 486s, but also older
Pentiums too).
The state or some organizations runs a salvage depot-type of operation
for donated equipment (of all kinds -- computers, furniture, misc. office
supplies). This is housed at the former Mt. St. Mary's college (it was
also NH College) in Hookset. This is open to various non-profit
organizations and would be worth checking into (I'd suggest contacting NHC
for a start).
Regards,
.

divide between haves and have-nots: those with the skills and connections
to make use of free software, and those who must pay high prices for
increasingly dated commercial offerings." -- Scientific American, Mar.
