I think I've said it here before, but I'm always amazed at how *little*
press Storm Linux gets -- it's definitely a solid distribution.
One quick example. We had someone donate a low-end Pentium computer to
one of our schools. Well, I didn't have my toolkit with me so I didn't
have even a screwdriver to open it up and see what video or sound card it
had. Absolutely no documentation, of course (I'll resist the temptation
of going into my standard rant of public schools being worthy of accepting
other people's computer rubbish.:-(. So, how do I ID the hardware? Set
the BIOS to boot off from the CD-ROM, pop in Storm, boot, assume Storm's
guesses are correct about the video card, play with multiple tests of the
graphics until I get the best X I can, a half-hour later and voila!, the
school now has a freebie web browsing/office suite machine which is simple
enough for clueless teachers and kids to use.
> I know the TurboLinux jokes due to the volume of CDs GNHLUG has, but
As an aside, we aren't the only ones with lots of TurboLinux CDs. I
bought a Belkin KVM switch the other day and eagerly opened the box up to
glance at the docs. And what did they include?! Yup, "TurboLinux Server
6.0 Lite". Kudos to the TurboLinux guys, that's targeted marketing that's
probably going to pay off for them...
On another topics, someone give a rundown of yesterday's meeting (I'm
down with a cold and wasn't up to the trip south...), if you wouldn't
mind.
