I have just been playing with the "hail" release of Stormix. Thank you Randy.
It is a great distro for the reason it makes installing and setting up a
desktop with many useful apps very easy. It is based on the Debian distro and
has all the advantages that entails. It is really worth checking out and I
suggest the GNHLUG contact them and get a few of their GPL CDs for "party
favors". With the easy update features of the packaging system, it would be
good for schools and similar locations. It is also good for new users..the
install is up there with Mandrake. I did a basic install off the Stormix CD,
added packages using the standard Debian CDs, and then used a 28.8 line
overnight to add all the non-free packages to make a full system for web
development and update everything. Worked flawlessly. I'm impressed. Has
both KDE and the Helix Gnome desktops.

I know the TurboLinux jokes due to the volume of CDs GNHLUG has, but if
you want a very functional server with some interesting apps to try out; get
one ogf the TurboLinux Server CDs. Installs easily and there is quite a bit of
useful software in terms of tools and apps for a server. A bit dated now, but
for setting up a server, quite useful. Another tool good for schools and
libraries, etc.
