This is the info that appeared in that website you point to:

Decipher intriguing info from http://www.i.h.kyoto-u.ac.jp/~shom/vaio/
                          (in Japanese):
                          /etc/pcmcia/config
                          card "Sony PCGA-CD5 CD-ROM""
                          version " ", "NinjaATA-", "V1.0", "AP00 "
                          bind "fixed_cs"
                          /etc/rc.d/rc/pcmcia /etc/sysconfig/pcmcia
                          CORE_OPTS="unreset_delay=300"

So.. I edited /etc/pcmcia/config to include:

card "Sony PCGA-CD5 CD-ROM"
version "","NinjaATA-", "V1.0", "AP00 "
bind "fixed_cs"

but I'm not sure what to do with the next few lines...

I don't have /etc/rc.d/rc/pcmcia or /etc/sysconfig/pcmcia

I'm running potato, essentially... not sure what takes the places of
those two files in Potato, thus I'm not sure where to add "CORE
OPTS="unreset delay=300"

lastly, i have no /dev/cdrom mountpoint in my system... do I need it?
how do I create it if I do?
