I'm totally stumped, here:
1) If I try to kick off autofs by hand
(automount --timeout 60 /home file /etc/auto.home), I get back:
Jan 9 10:30:43 orion automount[11170]: starting automounter version
4.0.0, path = /home, maptype = file, mapname = /etc/auto.home
Jan 9 10:30:43 orion automount[11170]: cannot find autofs in kernel
Jan 9 10:30:43 orion automount[11170]: /home: mount failed!
Which would be well and good, except that autofs *IS* in the kernel, as a
module, dagnabbit. lsmod shows it plain as day.
2) Then, just 'cause I'm feeling sick, it decides to go and, sometimes,
kick off autmount cleanly... but only for yp maps:
[root@orion /etc]# /etc/rc.d/init.d/autofs restart
Checking for changes to /etc/auto.master ....
Start /usr/sbin/automount --timeout 60 /home file /etc/auto.home
Start /usr/sbin/automount --timeout 60 /net yp auto.net
Start /usr/sbin/automount --timeout 60 /misc file /etc/auto.misc
Of the above three, /home doesn't work (with the same kernel error), but
the other two fire up fine... which, needless to say, confuses me to no
end. (Note that they don't actually go anywhere, as auto.misc and
auto.net are nil, but the damn automount process executes, with no errors
in /var/log/messages.)
I've since modified my auto.master and yp maps to attempt to force it to
mount /home via yp's map auto.home, but no dice.
Is there something really bizarre with Mandrake 7.2, or am I just doing
something dumb?
