IMO
i've done extensive work with apache and i've found that
anyone with half a clue could in effect build an Apache
webserver Full of options with a relatively small amount of
programming experience. Reading Howto's or README's or other
Material in any combination provides good results. as far as
"Commercial" i would say that your Manager is looking for
someone to point at when it fails or doesnt work, in my case
"Me". Supporting Free Software is Somewhat a Virtual Thing
ie. if i Build a web server for a Customer and they want
tweaks or other options/Support, they would pay me for my
time/Effort in supporting it not for the Code.
