There is a (somewhat) good reason for this. Microsoft couldn't compete
with RealMedia, so they dropped the price of the Windows Media server.
A RealServer is way too expensive for a lot of places to run.

On a semi-related note, Richard Stallman gave a speech last week, but
he refused to let it be webcast because it would force people to
download a proprietary, non-free application in order to see it.
