Apple has basically scrapped the existing MacOS (formerly just called
"System"). Apple now has "OS X. The "X" supposedly stands for release ten,
but it is a completely new operating system. It can be thought of a
MacOS-like GUI and application environment built on top of a Unix-like base.
The Unix parts derive directly from the Berkeley System Distribution codebase.
I dunno if it was FreeBSD or NetBSD or BSDI or Fred's BSD or whatever.

Note: I've never actually *seen* OS X, so for all I know the above is a
total lie fed into my brain by space aliens. But I think it's accurate. :-)
