I think it is worth noting the difference between the BSD license and the
GPL....Apple has the full right to keep the code private, if they had so
chosen.
With Linux available under the GPL, how can the people who write the free
forms of *BSD expect any contribution back from the people who derive from
it? The companies that go shopping, if they initially and unilaterally
want to give back will likely choose Linux. Those that may want to keep
proprietary the enhancements they have made, or are unsure, will choose
the license that gives them that right.
IMHO, people who release code under BSD licenses are inviting corporations
to take from them without giving.
