I was wondering if you have looked into NFS v4 yet? I haven't, but it
might have the per-user authentication you are interested in.
There is a linux port/implementation by Univ. of Michigan for 2.2 and
2.4 Linux kernels. I doubt it is ready for prime time, but I would be
curious to hear anything you or anyone else on the list have to say
about NFS v4.
