While I admit to not being unbiased, I have to disagree with this -- Cisco
doesn't *make* NICs (except for wireless ones via the Aironet
acquisition). Seems unlikely they'd intentionally try to drive people to
a solution they don't actually offer. As for the switches, I've got a
2900XL in my basement that I've never had a problem with; I have seen some
issues with early 2900 series, as well as early Cat 5K switches, but most
of that seems to have been fixed up; have you been keeping up with your
firmware revs? Lastly, while I may be mistaken, I don't believe that
ethernet autonegotiation is part and parcel of the ethernet spec, is it?
I mean, it's really just a kludged-on addition after there started being
multiple-speed NICs, no? And, well, some folks autonegotiate better than
others, especially when playing "musical network components" (I spent the
better part of an hour cursing at some no-name NIC failing to negotiate
with my 3Com SuperStack the other day.)
