Well whomever it was that told me about them getting hacked and having the
att broadband service suspended then further terminated was right on the
money. I pulled my box off the net like you all said, but it was too late, my
service had already been suspended for abuse. I was hacked and a backdoor was
installed that allowed a remote user to running scanning scripts from my
computer. The hole? The ftp server version 2.6 that comes pre loaded and
running with redhat 7. I found log files that the culprit overlooked
(secure.log files) and saw he entire process of gaining entry, all in the
form of a root kit/script. From that point scripts and other software was
installed in a usr/lib/lib directory which i found after the fact. As it is
now, my service has been suspended. It took 5 days for this to happen which i
find absolutely rediculous. oh well. How secure is IRIX? I happen to have an
an old sgi indigo 2 lying around, maybe ill try that. If anyone wants copies
of the scripts /backdoors/kit i can zip them and post them when they
hopefully do turn me back on. Its been over a week now without it.
